Stay Tuned for Our list of events to celebrate black history


 The Licking County NAACP is committed to providing opportunities to educate and empower our local community. As valued allies and partners, we invite you to join us for our 6 week community conversations series “Celebrating Black joy and Resilience”. Starting on Inauguration Day we will be hosting open-minded conversations through Black History Month on topics ranging from mental health awareness to education and youth engagement. All sessions are free and open to the public. We encourage you to register and share within your respective networks.

Licking county naacp scholarship fund

We are proud to announce that the Licking County NAACP has partnered with the Licking County Foundation to create a scholarship fund that is open to black, indigenous, and any other people of color in Licking County who wish to spur their studies at an accredited college, university, or trade school! The scholarship is open to current students (high school and college), adult reentry students, adult learners, and those seeking advanced degrees. To qualify you must meet the financial need criteria and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. 

If you would like to contribute to the fund (tax deductible) we are taking any donations and gifts. The minimum scholarship amount awarded is $1,000, but with community support we hope the foresee the fund growing larger!

Blood donation

The American Red Cross is in dire need of donated blood during these tough times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even more than that they are in need of African American blood to help fight the awful disease of sickle cell anemia. You can call The American Red Cross at 1 (800) 733-2767 to schedule an appointment. If you donate blood, you will receive a free antibody test for COVID-19. The results will be emailed to you in 7-10 days

voter canvassing

The 2020 election is right around the corner. The Licking County NAACP is partnering with the CARJ (Community for Racial Justice) to participate in a local canvassing tour to get community members registered to vote on Friday, September 18, and Tuesday, September 22 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. We will be meeting in the Licking County Library parking lot (101 West Main Street Newark, Ohio 43055) to start the canvassing. September 18th is National Black Voter Day and the 22nd is National Voter Registration Day, so in the spirit of those days, we will be working hard and doing our best to make sure that your voice counts this election year. NAACP kick-off

Come join us on Sunday, September 6 at    9:30 pm for a free showing "Good Trouble" by the late civil rights icon, John Lewis. This event will take place at Don Edwards Park in Newark, OH. Gates will open at 8:30, followed by opening remarks till dusk, and then the showing will begin at 9:30.

This event is open to all, but to comply with COVID-19 regulations we do ask that you bring your own seating, masks, and practice social distancing. This event is to kick-off the renewal of the Licking County chapter of the NAACP while honoring the life and memory of John Lewis.
